Jerry Tilitz ist ein amerikanischer Posaunist, Komponist, Sänger und Lehrer für Posaune. Er ist in New York City geboren und hat dort bis 1986 gelebt, studiert und gearbeitet. Während seiner beruflichen Laufbahn hat er zusammen mit vielen außergewöhnlichen Künstlern wie Gerry Mulligan, Horace Parlan, Hank Jones, Roy Eldrige, Herb Geller, Tommy Flanagan, Warren Vache, Adam Nussbaum, Benny Bailey, Danny Moss, Harry Allen, Randy Sandke, Tom Harrell, Barry Harris, Bill Mays, Randy Brecker und Benny Golson gespielt und/oder im Studio aufgenommen.

Nach Studien mit Lennie Tristano und dem einflussreichen Posaunisten Curtis Fuller, begann Jerry Tilitz seinen beruflichen Werdegang in New York City in Billy Taylor’s Jazzmobile Big Band. Neben seiner Beteiligung in der lebendigen New Yorker Club- und Studioszene begann er Jazz-Theorie und Jazz-Analyse am Queensboro College und am Rotterdamer Konservatorium zu unterrichten. Das angesehene U.S. Endowment for the Arts gewährte ihm ein Stipendium für Komposition und Darbietung.

Seit 1986 lebt Jerry Tilitz in Hamburg, Deutschland. Er hat dort eine eigene Jazz Radio Show mit dem Titel „An American in Hamburg“ gestaltet. Er ist in vielen internationalen Jazz Clubs und auf Jazz Festivals aufgetreten. Er hat privaten Posaunenunterricht gegeben und für Jazz Publikationen, wie z.B. das Jazz Journal International, geschrieben. Jerry Tilitz hat das Both Feet Record Label gegründet und hat an einer Reihe von Aufnahmen für Nagel Heyer Records und Bellaphon Records mitgewirkt.
